List of June Astronomical Events
04 – Observation of Mercury, the planet’s greatest elongation to the East
The skies in the month of June will already start presenting us with a better observation of the planet Mercury. This is because, on this day, the greatest elongation of the planet will occur to the East - apparent angular distance of a star in relation to a point or a fixed system; digression - That is, on this day at the beginning of the night, the planet will be at its highest point in relation to the horizon.
For the observation of this astronomical event, it is recommended to observe the west, just after sunset.
05 – penumbral lunar eclipse
The moon, in which a good part of the astronomical events observable here on the planet has its involvement. This time, a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, which will occur on the first Friday of June. With part of the Earth's shadow covering the moon, we will have a lunar eclipse.
What is a penumbral lunar eclipse? It is an astronomical event that occurs when part of the earth's shadow overshadows the moon, but does not fully cover it, as the 3 elements of eclipses (Sun, Moon and Earth) are not fully aligned, so only a part of the sunlight is blocked. , located in the twilight zone, where the name comes from.
Unfortunately, its full observation will not be possible here in Brazil, but the internet will still provide us with the opportunity to observe this, which is one of the 4 penumbral eclipses that will occur this year… Either by photos, or by live broadcasts.
Curiosity
This particular eclipse is known in part of the world as "Strawberry Moon". This is because, the first full moon of June, marks the harvest of strawberry plantations in northeastern North America, and this name was given by the natives of the region.
21 – Annular Eclipse of the Sun
And to complete the astronomical events, which will take place in June, we will have another Eclipse this time solar! However, also not observable in Brazilian territory.
An annular eclipse occurs with a total alignment of the lunar and solar bodies. But as the Moon is far from the Earth, it cannot completely cover the Sun, forming at the peak of the event, a kind of Ring around the Moon, when aligned with the center of the Sun.
