Good news! The anime market is growing in the West. In addition to Netflix and Prime Video, Crunchyroll will now also enter the producer market. In search of captivating and gaining more customers, the big players in Streaming have been investing in anime. However, in addition to just reproducing, they are investing in production as well.
Yesterday Crunchyroll released a list of 8 animes from its first wave of productions. They are:
- In/Spectre – based on light novels by Kyo Shirodaira.(already available in the catalogue)
- The God of High School – Based on the Manhwa (Korean comic) series by Yongje Park.
- Tower of God – Based on the Manhwa of the same name by Lee Jong-hui.
- Onyx Equinox – Original.
- noblesse – based on the Manhwa written by Son Jeho and illustrated by Lee Kwangsu.
- Meiji Gekken: Sword & Gun – Original.
- FreakAngels – based on graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield
- High Guardian Spice – created by Raye Rodriguez, production was canceled and Crunchyroll will take over the sequel (just like Netflix did with Lucifer).
Among so many series, perhaps the biggest highlight is for Tower of God, since it is one of the best-known Korean manga in the west, and its debut is scheduled for April 2020 Among all those announced, only In/Spectre is already in the catalog, and Onyx Equinox for the second quarter of 2020. All others follow without a release date.
Although these animes are the first Crunchyroll anime originals, they are the first produced by the company's studios. However, the company has already participated in the production of other anime, among them perhaps the best-known production partnership is The Rising of the Shield Hero, which premiered on January 9, 2019 with 25 episodes.
