Demon Slayer or Kimetsu no Yaiba if you prefer, finally has its first console game adaptation! Along with The Hinokami Chronicles, a great 3D Versus Fighting and Adventure entry following the early parts of Tanjiro and Nezuko's story.
Kimetsu no Yaiba Hinokami Keppuutan was first announced in March 2020. However, as of September 2019, CyberConnect2 and its CEO were reportedly working on adapting a "popular shonen manga". Many expected the studio's best artists to be working on a Demon Slayer game.
If you don't know CyberConnect2 before, in addition to dealing with Dot Hack series among other famous JRPGs, it also made Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games. Which are all amazing.
Reliving the adventures of Tanjiro and Nezuko in the new Demon Slayer game
Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles is divided into two main sections. Adventure Mode and Versus Mode. However, all players will have to go through Adventure Mode first, at least its prologue, before unlocking Versus Mode.
While this is a great fighting game to start on an afternoon with friends, the game also pushes players into its solo content and relives the adventures of Tanjiro and Nezuko. How will you unlock Versus Mode characters through Adventure Mode.
In Adventure Mode, Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles allows players to mostly control Tanjiro as you explore 3D environments. It's definitely not a full-on exploration game, but going through each of these stages is refreshing as Tanjiro can either immediately head towards the main objective or take various detours to find some side bonuses.
These bonuses include Kimetsu Points and Memories, used to unlock bonus content, characters and scenes. The game's beautiful graphics and the various NPCs you encounter, along with Tanjiro's regular voice interventions, make the stages worthwhile, even if they are quite linear. The core of the game is the fighting system, as Tanjiro will regularly encounter Demons.
The best of 3D arena fighters
Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba's battle system definitely needs a little getting used to during its first hour, but it's pretty straightforward once you get used to it. It is very, very similar to the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series. With separate buttons for light and heavy attacks, and breathing techniques. Once you've memorized the controls, you'll be able to quickly perform deadly combos while guarding and dodging the Demons' attacks.
Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles also uses a tag battle system. The two characters will not fight simultaneously, but they can switch during battle or even chain together combos. Make battles a truly thrilling experience as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps.
While there are no difficulty settings in the game and certain boss battles can be quite difficult, there is no penalty for finishing the game. Those who want to reach the best S level and unlock everything in the game will have to triumph over the bosses without dying once. But if you finish the game, you can always continue the fight instead of starting over from the beginning. Finally, in VS mode, both online and offline modes are present. You will be able to spend hours and hours fighting with your friends, using your favorite characters and their breathing styles.
