Did you know that the European Union will propose a law to standardize cell phone chargers? That is, if this law is approved, all cell phones that enter that block of countries will have only one standard. And yet, this has generated a great deal of discussion, including a gigantic company that did not like to know this information very much.

Well, we still don't know if this can influence cell phone chargers here in Brazil, but we'll keep an eye on any information. It's worth remembering that here in Brazil, Android phones until recently were kind of a single charger standard, but that's not the case.

When did the idea of standardizing cell phone chargers appear in the European Union?

This subject did not come up in this block overnight, to tell you the truth, this subject has been circulating there for some time. In 2020 for example, legislators in the European Parliament voted and passed a measure for only one connector format to be allowed in the region.

However, it was not yet in 2020 that this story began, to tell you the truth, it has been since 2009. In this year of 2009, an agreement defined microUSB as the standard, that's when the idea of Standardizing the Cell Phone Charger began to emerge.

A Study Was Done On Types Of Chargers Used In Europe

Recently, a news agency did a study and reported that in 2018 half of the devices sold came with a type of connector, do you know which one? USB micro-B, which, however, is also well known as microUSB, 29% of these devices came with USB-C, and 21%, with Lightning.

However, we can imagine that USB-C since then has taken a large proportion of those sales that belonged to microUSB. This has been happening because it was exclusive to more expensive devices, however, it has become popular in intermediate and entry lines.

Apple was not very happy to hear this information

Who didn't really like to hear about this European Union project that aims to standardize the cell phone charger was the technology giant, apple. The bloc argues that if there is only one type of charger, then it will reduce e-waste in the world.

However, Apple countered the argument using the same example, because according to the company, it has already manufactured countless cables that would be discarded. That is, having to change your charger type to follow a standard, the already manufactured ones would become electronic waste anyway.

The company also added that more than a billion devices with a Lightning connector have already been produced worldwide. Apple also revealed that according to it, a standardization of chargers would hinder innovation in the sector.

Anyway, here's another article where I talked a little about a European Union law that wants to standardize the Cell Phone Charger. If you liked the content, I ask you to share it with all your friends and on all your Social Networks.
