Before 2021, it had been a while since Brendan Fraser had been in the spotlight. This year, however, audiences saw him return in style. After a healthy video of the star went viral, fans flocked to cheer on the actor, waiting for news of more upcoming roles for his big comeback.
Your fan base wants to see you succeed. That's something studios realize. Now, after some work from one of our trusted and proven sources, we've learned that because of how Brendan Fraser's fans have rallied to him, Universal wants to see him return as Rick O'Connell for The Mummy 4.
Recently, Brendan Fraser picked up some roles. He is set to play the villain in DC's Batgirl movie. He is playing a lawyer in a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Still, it seems doubtful that he's too busy to sign The Mummy 4, if Universal handles it well. It's something Fraser should be aware that his fans would like to see.
Brendan Fraser's return with Universal!
We know Universal wants to bring Brendan Fraser back for another mummy sequel. However, we have other questions. For example, what story is Universal looking for for its sequel? Do they have any other talent on board? More importantly for fans, it would be great if Universal also had Rachel Weisz back as Evelyn and Stephen Sommers in the director's chair.
In 2008, Universal released a third mummy film starring Brendan Fraser, but without Rachel Weisz or Stephen Sommers, who worked on the first two. This third film still did well at the box office, but it wasn't as well received by fans. Eventually, Universal came forward with a mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise. The movie had an entirely different tone and was not the reboot they wanted to create for their Dark Universe. However, before Universal went ahead with the Tom Cruise reboot, they had an idea for the story of The Mummy 4 with Brendan Fraser.
While we haven't been able to confirm whether Universal still has their original idea on the table, what is known about it could be a solid starting point for what they'll do in the sequel. Mummy 4 should be called The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec.
And the original intent for the film?
The original intention was for Antonio Banderas to play the villain opposite Brendan Fraser's Rick O'Connell. The film would see the entire O'Connell clan traveling to South America. Not many other details are known, but the villain is expected to be another undead character, like the ones Fraser has faced off against in the past.
A mark against the use of his original idea for The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec, it may not take place in Egypt. The third film took place in China. If Universal wants to lean as much as they can on what made Brendan Fraser's first film great, they may decide that a return to Egypt is in store.
Whatever his story plans, the return of Brendan Fraser is certainly interesting to watch. Hopefully Universal eyeing Fraser for a return means they have a better understanding of what audiences want to see from The Mummy.
