Netflix, a pioneer and one of the largest streaming services in the world, announced that it will launch a new subscription model in Kenya. It's a completely free plan, without even having to fill in payment-related data!
The new subscription went into effect this Monday (20) of September, in the country in the east of the African continent. And it has the following restrictions to be used:
- Be of legal age (18 years);
- Provide a valid email address;
- Only for Android smartphones;
Unfortunately, the service will only be available to Android users at launch, but that makes perfect sense. After all, it is a country with certain limitations, but which has a vast number of Mobile Internet users. As it is a free plan, one can imagine that it will be focused on the greatest possible accessibility.

Users of the new system, if they prefer, will be able to upgrade to a paid subscription, thus being able to use the platform on laptops, computers, Smart TVs, etc.

As previously mentioned, one of the restrictions is exactly on which device the signature can be made. Another restriction is on the amount of content. Which is more than expected... However, it's still a good amount of content, about 1/4 of the catalog at least at the beginning.
It is not possible to download the content to consume offline, nor to do screen mirroring on a TV. Some restrictions that can be an obstacle to a better use of the content, but that are more than expected because it is free content.
However, some features will continue to be available, for example, the creation of profiles, including Children. The personalized recommendation system, and parental control.
Free Netflix in Brazil?
Although it may be a test, it cannot be ruled out that the service will arrive in Brazil. However, there is no statement from the company in this regard. In his announcement, he only informed the arrival in Kenya, not that he would go to other countries, and which countries.
But as Brazil is a major consumer of the platform, and even a country with great economic diversity, it is possible that this model will also come to Brazil. Especially with the Streaming War, all over the world. This would be one of the ways for Netflix to consolidate itself even more in the market, through the Free subscription.
