The universe is very vast, compared to its size our galaxy which is already huge, it becomes just a small drop in an ocean. But our galaxy is special! After all, we are here! What is life?
It is one of the most complicated questions and that generates disagreements! Often it is necessary to extrapolate the field of science and go to philosophy. What is life, how can we say that something is alive or not?
As simple as it may seem, it is not! In general, it is considered as a living being, an individual that during its existence experiences at least 1 time during its existence:
- Development: A passage through several distinct stages, ranging from his birth to his death.
- Growth: Through the absorption of materials in the environment in which they live, with the expulsion of what is not needed or desired.
- Movement: In its internal (cellular) environment, with or without external movement in the environment in which it is located.
- Reproduction: Ability to generate new beings equal, or similar to itself.
- Response to Stimuli: the being has the ability to feel and evaluate the properties of the environment in which he finds himself. But also to act selectively in response to possible changes in such conditions.
- Evolution: The being is able, through its reproduction, to adapt itself, that is, constantly evolving to adapt to the environment in which it lives.

Life off Earth
Aliens are routine in Earth fiction, for better or worse. They are often portrayed as conquerors, predators, or just peaceful beings. Varying a lot from the content creator's approach. And it always sells! The audience is always large, after all, through fiction we can get a small glimpse of what life outside Earth could be like.
With the great advances in technology in such a short time in recent years, finding life beyond Earth has only become a matter of time. But maybe that question, is there life outside the earth? It can end up frustrating a lot of people.
Life and Smart Life
A lot is thought when asking about the existence of life outside Earth, it is a form of life as we know it. But this is one of the factors of disappointment for many, when waiting for civilizations, thinking lives as well as animals, etc.
But we can find life in a way we don't know! We know life based on the element Carbon, from the periodic table, however we can find life based on another element. Not to mention that we can also find life in which it did not have the necessary conditions to develop, that is, basic beings, not very evolved.
Some people don't believe there is life beyond Earth, at least not carbon-based life. Because life here as we know it only got where it got because of several factors. Several events, conditions… that combined allowed us to get here, advanced and evolved to the point of being able to search the universe, to know if we are alone or not!
Importance of the Search for Life
Although by some it is considered a waste of time, spending billions to scour the universe in search of traces of possible civilizations, or basic life... These searches are fundamental for the technological advancement of humans.
As with the Space Race, with investments in these researches, several things are developed and adapted for us. The technological advancement of our civilization is directly impacted thanks to these investments. There are currently some researches committed to finding signs of civilization in space.
These studies, although they have a focus, store thousands of data that are useful for various research and discoveries about the Cosmos. In other words, with them we achieve both technological advances and more information about where we live!
