Fate The Winx Saga
Fate: The Winx Saga is inspired by the Winx Club teen animated series that aired nearly two decades ago.
This is an adaptation inspired by the central characters and shows a world in fairies, monsters and the other world. The first season sets the tone for the next ones. While this Harry Potter-style series might not be a very attractive watch, it doesn't disappoint in terms of entertainment either.
This series traces the busy and restless life of Bloom, who is a human who ends up in Alfea, a fairy school. Not only does she discover her power - fire - but she also unearths a shocking truth about her life, where she learns that her biological parents are different from the humans who raised her in California.
Knowing that she is a changeling, Bloom sets out on a path to learn more about herself. It is at this point that she rambles on about many uncomfortable truths about what is happening around her and befriends many colleagues, some true and others cruel. If she finds out the truth about her past and makes peace with herself, it will be the rest of the season.
Second season?
While the series appears to be a fun clock with some good visual effects and background score, it really feels like a pop clock that launches quickly and there's only the central character that gets the spotlight.
The rest of the cast remains a caricature until the end, though they do have a few scenes to establish their backstory or purpose. Also, a fantasy series like this requires a lot of conflict and strongly negative characters. While we get a glimpse of this in the series finale, it doesn't seem strong enough to contain the goings-on at school.
While that may be the case, the series ends on the premise of a much more promising second season as it ends in what could be the most interesting twist. We'll have to wait for the second season to see if the manufacturers deliver on that promise.
